Underwater Dreams Screening & Panel Discussion featuring Allan Cameron
The panel will be moderatated by Jon Corippo, CUE's Director of Academic Innovation, and will include Dr. Cameron along with CUE members Julie Goo, Diane Main, Bill Selak and Sean Williams.
Dr. Allan Cameron (Ph.D, Elementary Education) taught computer programming at Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix, AZ. Along with fellow teacher Fredi Lagvardi, they started an afterschool robotics team. The team and underwater robot, Stinky, became the material for film "Spare Parts & Underwater Dreams."
Underwater Dreams, a documentary written and directed by Mary Mazzio, and narrated by Michael Peña, is an epic story of how Mexican immigrants learned how to build an underwater robot from Home Depot parts and to defeat engineering powerhouse MIT in the process. The competition, however, was only the beginning. These boys forged a legacy that could not have been imagined.
If you enjoy the film and want to bring more STEAM and a student-centric pedagogy to YOUR school or classroom, join an esteemed panel of learning experts featuring Allan Cameron who will share exciting STEAM and leadership examples from their schools, answer questions, and give some extra details to your vision of a 21st century school that truly changes student lives.

We’ll explore field-tested strategies necessary when tech becomes ubiquitous in classrooms, discuss best practices in changing classroom culture, and the mindset needed to evoke change in schools. Simply adding technology, without addressing the culture of teaching and learning is the surest path to failed initiatives. NEW SESSION
The VIC (Video in the Classroom) Network is made up of individuals from all different facets of education who want to play an active role in increasing the presence of multimedia educational experiences in all classrooms. We are all bound by our passion for using multimedia as a great equalizer in our schools. When used properly, video can capture a student’s imagination, increase their motivation, spur their creativity, and open doors for future success that otherwise may have remained closed. We hope to expand video opportunities through continued interaction with like-minded professionals, both electronically and through CUE-related events.
