Johnita Porter has championed for students with disabilities most of her life. She has a bachelor's degree in special education and a master's in teaching, with an emphasis on curriculum and assessment. Currently, Johnita works for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools where she created the Assistive and Instructional Technology Group (A&IT). A&IT works to provide assistive technology and Universal Design for Learning(UDL) support for students throughout the district. Johnita's lifelong goal is to change how general education and special education work together to provide support for students. She was named a Michigan Educator Voice Fellow in 2015. When she's not reading and researching all things UDL, she enjoys spending time with family, reading Historical Fiction novels, and traveling.
